Can't install TM on NAS

Postby Dikki65 » Sun Sep 04, 2011 7:02 pm

Hi,
I Installed TM on my PC (C/(x86)/..). After registration I wished to install it on my NAS (knowing that I had to pay again). But as I loaded down TM (without my regidtration key) it began to install TM on my PC (C/(x86) again. I didn't get any chance to change the path (as I get when I installed it for the first time). So I'm from Germany and I hope you are able to understand my problem (20 years ago I wrote the last time in english). May be there is anyone who can help me. Thank You very much, Dirk.

For your NAS you will probably want TwonkyServer instead.

Which NAS do you have?

I bought a Netgear ReadyNas Ultra 2+. Do you think I need TS for the NAS? Is it a special version of TS?

That has a DLNA server built in, though it isn't Twonky any longer.

You would need to install the relevant version - see the NAS sub-forum here and the streaming forums at ReadyNAS.

Sorry, if I ask again. But does it mean I have to install a special version of Twonky or can't I use Twonky anymore because of the DNLA? So that I have to look for another software to run my media server (it'a Linn DS). Thank you very much for your help so far.

It already has a media server - you don't have to install anything else.

If you want to install Twonky then you'll need to do a few things:

  1. Identify what processor your NAS runs
  2. Download the relevant package, if there is one
  3. Install it

Ok, that last part isn't necessarily trivial, but if you work through the sticky posts in the NAS sub-forum and post there you should get some help. You may also need to ask for help on the ReadyNAS forums I've already linked to.

Note that there is no official support for NAS installs.

You can use the one license key for the installation on your PC and your NAS.

Look at the ReadyNAS forum (in the community add-on's section) as Super-Poussin has made an excellent range of Twonky add-on's for the entire ReadyNAS series.

Bri

PS I've also some custom music trees downloadable from here. The Super-Poussin add-on creates a new share on the ReadyNAS (called 'Twonkymedia') and in that share there is a 'views' folder. In that views folder sit the trees (XML files) so you can save the originals and try custom ones in their place (as it's a share, you can do it all via Windows Explorer or Mac finder, so there's no need to fiddle about with Linux and PuTTY to change them). Don't leave the originals there (don't just rename them) but save them elsewhere else if trying custom replacement ones. :)
