Flash player needs updating for beam browser?

Postby w8rn8r » Sun Jan 08, 2012 3:49 pm

When trying to play videos from the ARD Mediathek (german TV station), the site reports that videos can't be played unless the flash player is upgraded. Is this a known problem, and is there a solution or workaround?
This is on an Android tablet, using the TwonkyBeam browser.

Sorry to hear that you're having problems.

This is not a known-issue. Twonky Beam Browser doesn't work with all sites. If you don't see a large beam button appear, it probably means that site doesn't have beamable content.

We are looking into ways to support sites like this in the future however it's not an easy problem to solve.

Thanks for your response, Rick, it is much appreciated.

So do I take it that a content host (web site) needs to take a specific action in order to support the Twonky beam approach ?

Just in case it might help any - the error message I when pointing the Twonky Beam Android browser at this ARD Mediathek site said that I need to install a more recent version of the Adobe Flash player, offering a link for doing just that. However, when I click that link, I get an error message stating that the target can't be found, and the link looks about like this: "market://com.adobe.flashplayer"

We have a method we use to locate media on web pages. It works on some but not all sites. The one type of site we cannot work with is site with embedded Flash players. It sounds like the site you describe could be one of these.

We will soon be rolling out a program that will make it relatively easy for sites like this to add beam buttons to their site. I'll make a post about that in the forum once it's ready.

Thanks again, Rick.

Fyi, the full URL to the site is: http://www.ardmediathek.de/ard/servlet/
... and all of the movies there are not recognized, so I guess this will be the issue you described.
