Vincent you've discovered an incredible thing!!!

NAS WD My Worldbook White Edition installed version 4.4.18 twonkymedia-mss2-4.4.18
RE-tested start/pause functionality on file in my video library (renamed all files to .mpg)
Twonky client type samsung tv configured as Generic DLNA 1.5

dx50 Divx video (also in 720p hd) (avi container renamed .mpg) PASSED
Xvid mpeg4@video (avi container renamed .mpg) PASSED
H264 full hd 1080p (matroska container renamed .mpg) PASSED
mpeg (mpeg1@video codec) .mpg file not renamed PASSED

IMPORTANT NOTICE for Rick/TMM PM

1) You,ve not implemented Generic 1,5 DLNA client profile in rel 5.x --> you must to do i think
2) PLEASE update soon this in rel 5.1.1, I bought a new licence to run rel 5.x and instead the old 4.1x free preinstalled in NAS works better ?!?

i think that the not full complaiancy between TM and Samsung its a 50% --50% responsability between Twonky team and Samsung. Samsung media player understand your command only if you present the content as .mpeg file.

I hope that twonky people implement the trick in rel 5.1 soon; i think that at this point the root to solve also the ff/rw bug its not so hard to find

Best topic, i buy the Samsung LE37B650T2W for the Dlna feature, since last night i was un-enable to stream with no other software except the official ... after the upgrade to 4.4.18 to my WBWE 1 everything is fine (mkv rename to mpg as previous told ) fine piece of software... reccomended

Rick, Sante,

I noticed that pause/resume finaly work FOR ALL video file renamed in .mpg !

BUT fast forward only work with some of them...
(but pause is much more useful that fast forward !!!)

Have you some news from your developers team about this issue ?

We discussed this issue with one of the engineers this morning. The solution is not an easy one because TMS 4.x and 5.x use a different client adaptation layer. There are also risks in assuming that AVI containers will always contain an MPEG codec. However even with these hurdles, there is still a reasonable chance we can fix this issue. I created a new ticket so we can better track progress on this issue. To check on status in the future, ask me about MM-3196.

Dear all,

my Samsung TV UE55B7020 tell me that pictures with resolution 2864x2144x24 via DLNA are not supported. Which sizes are supported in release TMS 5.1?

Second question is: recorded videos in mpeg2 (.ts) format from Dreambox 7025 are not playing in the right format (16:9)

I don't think TMS has a limit, but I'll confirm this. Our LN650 Samsung at work automatically scales large photos to fit the screen. I'll ask the experts on this in Berlin and post an answer here as soon as I hear back.

For sure,
it a a known bug that affect all samsung lcd and led series, the tv downscale the video's in ts format to 4:3 also if the're inn 16:9 format. Somebody patch the issue for LE36b650 models simply modifing in unix some part of the tv firmware..high risk operation.
Samsung also delivered yesterday a new 2005 firmware upgrade but they don't address (i had tested) any mediaplayer issues
(nothing has been changed as i see at this moment).
Rick, thanks for the feedbacks that you give us every time about samsung, but at this point i think is better that you set up some sort of development channel with samsung as you obtained with sony bravia technicians.
Only a strong collaborations between twonky and samsung can give some resultin the future

BTW: I noticed one of our engineers started work on the Samsung pause issues today. Crossing fingers he'll be able to come up with a better solution than the file extension renaming workaround.

I'm also using a Samsung B750 LCD and Twonky 5.1 pre-installed on my WD Mybook NAS. Cheers for the support, the mpg rename is mostly working for me. Looking forward to any updates. One question, if I want to try any of the beta builds, where can I find my license number?

There is no mode to retrive the embedded license stored in Mybook.i think, you've to back up the twonkymedia-server.ini and re copy it on new installation.
Also i use twonky + wd mybook & samsung
but decide to purchase another license,

I've just received word from our engineer that this issue has been addressed.

Props go out to Burkhard who worked on this. I'm assuming this change will appear in a future release of TMS 5.1.1. I'll let you know when I receive more details including version # and release date.

I agree with you Sante, i bought a samsung TV for DLNA and mkv, and a Qnap NAS because it have Twonky embeded !!

But now i'm waiting for them to update their firmware with the last Twonky 5 version...
(and they say that they are waiting fo Twonky team to send them a "stable" 5.x version :roll:

only one plus thing for Rick

If you can report both to samsung and to your engineer that the only codec that not works (contained in mkv matroska files)
is the V-MPEG4 or MPEG4 codec (my samsung not read it, i don't know if is a samsung player problem or a twonky problem)

this codec is the raw codec used in blu ray disks. So if we want to rip and back up on nas our bluray films, we've to convert from mpeg4 to x264 or mpeg2 codec; better if this codec will be supported; i ask you, if you can, to report this to your eng dept. and also to samsung when you meet them.

I just found out that the Samsung pause fix will appear in the final release of TMS 5.1.1 that is currently scheduled for the end of Nov.

It will be posted in the Beta section as soon as it's ready. The current 5.1.1 RC releases posted here in the Forum do NO contain this fix.

Good news. They're willing to look into this, but there's no guarentee we can fix it -- so don't get your hopes up yet.

One thing that would help us fix this issue is if someone could e-mail a short MPEG4/MKV video test file to TMM-beta@pv.com

To check status of this issue in the future, please ask about MM-3235.

OK,
meantime, i'l give you more details after my latest test,
to be specific, the codec that not works anymore in Matroska mkv container seems to be the x264 AVC MPEG4 codec (instead H264 works).
Tonight i will upload on rapidshare the test video ( 400MB), and tomorrow as i can i will provide here the links to download if you agree.
So everybody can test; the video is also playeable on pc with windows media player latest version, it is not fluid cause the stream
is about 40mb/s (very hard for processors) but it works.

And finally this is another example that confirms our last week analisys about the HD codec

This is attached is a small HD 720p demo. It's a mpg file, as we can see the container it s not the problem mkv, mpg or avi seems to be not important, simply renaming the file twonky understand and stream it normally.

In this case, you can test in file a H264 codec with 12,9 mb/s stream rate; twonky play it on samsung without problems. Finally i think that: if is true that the"raw" mpeg4 "HIgh Definition" codec will be supported in new 5.1.1 release (at this moment as we know it seems works in twonky in some variant for example when it is presented in dvx or xvid format avi)
the last problem to solve is to implement x264 codec support in twonky.

Good testing to everybody in the forum, please give me feedback about this contents

Hello !
I make my own mkv x264 little vidéo from my camera.
I can confirm that the Samsung TV can read the file, but Twonky can't stream it.
If i rename the same file in .mpg instead of mkv, Twonky can stream and pause !
if you want, i can send you a file (10Mo)

Hi Vincent,
what camera you have used? the HD recording is in AVCHD format? and most important thing, can you read the stream carachetristic with mkvtoolnix to discover the bitrate of the stream, i think that the bit rate is the critical issue...
in few days i'l try to rec with a panasonic, but i'm not sure if the codec is x264ante

I use a Lumix lx3 and take HD video in .mov (don't remeber format)
i use Handbrake on ubuntu to convert the .mov in mkv x264 videos...

Hi Vincent,
based on the fact that mov codec is very similar to mpeg4 codec, i suggest you simply to rename the file format .mov to .avi or .mpg and try if twonky play it without converting anything. (it s an old trick used for play mov file on windows media player).
If not play the problem is for sure the not supporting mpeg4 codec in the twonky release, but with new 5.1.1 mpeg4 will be included and solve this issue.

Hi,
i tested twonky on contents recorded wirh a Panasonic HDC HS 20 cam, the files are in AVCHD container the file extension is a .ms container and the codec is classical mpeg2. Audio is in DD 5.1.
Streaming the files from twonky to samsung tv works good for video (no need to convert anything), but the audio seems not to be
streamed...Problem i think with the .ts format.

It's been a while, so I wanted to give everyone an update where we stand on the Samsung pause issue.

Samsung can pause when browsing the final version of TMS 5.1. This version is included with TMM v1.3 and is supposed to be posted here somewhere in the forum.

We changed the code that TMM sends to the Samsung TV so it is exactly the same as the code that TMS 5.1 sends. Since TMS works, it you'd think that TMM would now work. But it doesn't. Pause still does not work -- even though this same code works fine when video is pulled from TMS 5.1.

It appears that Samsung TVs cannot seek when controlled remotely. We are planning to inform Samsung of this and hopefully they can make a change to their firmware to resolve this OR provide us with a possible solution.

Sorry I don't have better news.

The 5.1 rc3 and 5.1.1 version don't address the .mkv and pause issues anyway no problem,
if we apply the trick to rename all the file to .mpg now it works.
I agree that samsung HAVE to support all the media server vendor and release a fw fully compliant, at the moment their client have a lot of bug also with the samsung PC share manager that works bad than TMM

Hi I tried 5.1.1RC3 and Pause was working fine for me. Mostly AVI files.

Rewind and fast forward didn´t work. Are you still working on those issues?
