Sony smp-n100 media player - music ok, video/photo problems

Postby gmp » Thu Mar 03, 2011 12:48 pm

Hi guys, FTP with a level of achievement that has gone beyond my technical knowledge in this area.

I've got a WD NAS running TWONKY and the above media player hard wired and connected to TV. Having looked around the forums there seem to have been some issues for Bravia users in accessing NAS content but for me it has been AOK via sony remote control.

I now have the Twonky app on both an itouch and an Advent Vega android tablet. I can successfully beam video/music/photos to our Windows 7 pc's running WMP and get the all the content to display and run on the Vega. I use the vega and itouch to beam music to the N100 with the tv off so I can playback through my amp and this works fine. Hovewer I can't beam photos/video (all of which I know the n100 can play over the network via Sony remote control). Generally the app will respond that it couldn't start playback. I'm just wondering if this is a glitch on the N100 or whether there is a simple fix?

I suspect the reason that WMP is working is because it is transcoding your video on the fly. You can do that with Twonky software as well, but today it's not automatic. That should improve later this year, when we launch TwonkyServer 7.0. We're also looking into transcoding for TwonkyBeam, but I don't know when that will be finished.
