TwonkyBeam for Internet Explorer (IE8) Is Not Finding IE8

Postby GoodGuy98 » Thu Apr 14, 2011 4:38 pm

I am trying to install TwonkyBeam for Internet Explorer 1.4 and it says:

Internet Explorer not found
Please install Internet Explorer before continuing with this installation.

I use Internet Explorer daily and it is installed in this location taken from the shortcut:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

It didn't seem to have any trouble finding it with TwonkyBeam 1.3 iirc.

Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear that you're having problems. Install problems with IE are very rare. If you could answer these questions, it might help me to help you with your problem:

1. What OS are you running?
2. Did reinstall IE at a different path than the original one?

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3 with all Windows Updates applied.

I did NOT move where IE8 was located.

It is found here"

Target: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

Start In: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%

The About Box shows Version 8.0.6001.18702

If you need any addition information, just ask.

Thank you for your reply.

Thanks for providing more details. I'm running exactly the same browser and OS versions as you. I wonder why you're seeing this and I'm not. Let's see if the engineers have any clues for you. I'll make a post here after I hear back from them.

I am still waiting for a reply, so I was wondering where this issue stands. If you could post a status update, it would be appreciated.

Thank You

We have not been able to reproduce this issue. Until we can do so we unfortunately cannot fix this.

This is the Target from the actual shortcut used to start IE8:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

One idea would be to write a little test program containing the logic which attempts to find the IE8 software
displaying information as it runs.

They tested this again and here is the response I received.

I do not see the users issue. Maybe Have the user launch ie 8 and then download/install ie 1.4 beam... The installer should see it IE as running and should try to close IE before continuing the beam install.

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I thought I would pass it on just in case it is.

I just tried runnng IE8 and trying to install TwonkyBeam while it is running. The same error occurred, so that didn't help.
