Playing the Music Queue

Postby klangwerk » Wed Oct 13, 2010 7:03 pm

Hi,

first of all, this is a great app. I've been waiting a long time for something like this.

Now to my problem: I use TwonkyMobile on a HTC Desire to stream music from a Linux/ARM-based UPnP media server to a WD TV Live. Whenever a track reaches its end, the playback just stops and I have to manually start the next track in the Music Queue. Is there a way to make it continue with the next track?

Also, it would be nice to be able to see the full text of long titles scroll in the list views. I don't know if it should be scrolling or via selection or something else, but the way it is now, it's impossible to differentiate tracks with long names that start the same way.

Thirdly, it would be nice if the app would preload and cache long item lists. Right now it often displays "Loading..." and you have to wait a second to see the titles. Not a major problem, but slightly inconvenient.

Other than that, it's an amazing app!

Best regards,
Martin

Thanks for your feedback! We have notified WD about the problem with playlists that you mention. I believe that is their issue and I expect it will be addressed in a future firmware update. You're other two suggestions are good ones, that I'll pass on to our developers to consider.

No, it is not a WD problem!
It is a major bug in TM (if not a show stopper).
Any playlists on any device from any server stops after playing one single song!

Please fix.

It's not worth either our time to debate this here. The important thing is that we're working on a fix to this problem with WD.

It is certainly not a problem of WD only. If you play back the music queue on the android phone (Samsung Galaxy S) it also stops after the first song has played. It then won't restart even if you click on next song. You have to manually force close Twonky Mobile.

Thanks for reporting this. Although I have not experienced this problem yet, I will pass on this info on to our engineers.

One question: Are the files you're playing MP3 files or another format?

I do have the same problem!

You can make the twonky mobile play the whole playlist when you gain your mobile phone NOT to switch into standby!

...when I started a playlist and the first track reaches its end, the playback stop... when my mobile phone (HTC Desire) switches to standby meanwhile. When I connect the mobile phone to power -so it doesn´t go the standby- the whole playlist is executed.

I my case, when the HTC Desire went to standby, I have to restart the whole twonky mobile on my phone to work again, otherwise it didn´t find the player (a Philips streamium NP2900) anymore.

I think this is a major bug in the twonky mobile app, too?!

Thanks!

...in addition:

in twonky mobile -after go back from mobile phone standby- I got the error when going back from the players window "lost connection to library".

...and when you choose some songs within the same album the playback does not stop, even when phone switches to standby...?!

You might want to download an app like "KeepScreen" that allows you to select the apps you want to remain on when they are active. Then the KeepScreen app will automatically detect when an activity associated with that app is on the screen and it will prevent the screen from turning off. It puts an icon in the status bar when it is active. It's been working very well for me since it only prevents the screen from turning off when you're running Twonky Mobile software.

Just the same problem again... :(

I use a Thecus N3200 pro with Twonky Media Server 4.4.11, a WDTV life and a Galaxy tab with Twonky Mobile.

I cannot find a way to play more than one MP3 song at a time. I do not think, that this is a problem of the WDTV live, because it works fine with the 2player app. Even when the screen is turned off.

Is there anything, making things work, in the next update of Twonky Mobile? If yes, when will the update be available?

Regards

We are aware that there are problems sending playlists to WD TV Live devices and seeing if there is anything we can do on our end to fix this. Watch for updates in the Android Marketplace or App Store.

Recently updated my TwonkyMobile to 2.1.1. What do I find: that the 'one song per album' bug is back again (with the previous free version of TwonkyMobile this problem seemed to have been solved).

No - it's nothing to do with my Android player going to sleep - the screen is alive and kicking and the player slider is updating. But at the end of a track, the slider returns to the start and play stops. I have to manually move to the next track in the Queue. The tracks are being queued from an Album (ie this is not a Playlist issue). Behaviour is inconsistent - sometimes play continues to the next track, sometimes it stops.

My server is TwonkyServer 5.1.9 (the WD version). I have also tried 6.0.37 - same issue. It works fine with 2player on my Motorola Milestone (running Android 2.2) and with Philips, and ZyXEL media players. Does seem a shame that the one player that I can't get to work correctly with TwonkyServer is TwonkyMobile!

I should add that if I play tracks stored locally using TwonkyMobile server it all works fine; but my 60GB music collection is on my WD server and I don't want to have to copy tracks across to my handheld to play them.

Thanks for sharing this. I'll ask our developers to retest this and log a bug if they can replicate this.

Running version 2.1.2 of Twonky Mobile on my Nexus S and I have the same problem.

I am streaming my music on my Synology DS-211+ (DLNA - via the Media Server built-in) to my Denon AVR-1912 receiver (via Airplay) and it doesn't seem to work with my ALAC files (.m4a). At all.
I only get "Unable to start playback"!

The same result if I try to stream to my Apple TV 2. Seems to be a bug in the Twonky app imho.

I works with my .mp3 files and I skip to the next file and I can queue other .mp3 files as well.

I would really like this to work as this app is looking really good and is supporting Airplay!

I would of course like to be as helpful to your staff as possible, if there's anything I can do to help/test, please get in touch. Also if you need more detailed information.

I have TwonkyMedia mobile app installed on an iPhone and an IPad (both running iOS V5). My music is stored on a QNAP TS-210 which is running Twonky and I am using a ROKU soundbridge running software version 3.0.52

When I select an album or playlist using one of the Apple devices as the player and queue all songs, they play sequentially without intervention.

When I select the ROKU device as the player, only one song at a time appears in the play queue on the ROKU. I must hit play at the end of each track to initiate the next one.

Given this, it would appear to be more than just a WD issue.

Other than this, the app is fantastic - though a shuffle or random button would be good.

Playing from Android mobile to Vulkano everything works well except as above it plays one song at a time. Unless I press the next button. Then all goes well. Another app I looked at had a setting choice for equipment that had an issue playing the next song. I assume they sent an exta "next" signal. Maybe this could help resolve the issue. Currently running free version. Is the only app to connect correctly. But at the moment this issue stops me purchasing what otherwise seems an ideal solution.

Cool App that I would definitely like to use and buy, however I am facing one issue:
After adding an Album to the TM playlist and playing it, the playlist suddenly stops after several titles. Manually starting it again results in following error message: mime type not supported. When going back to settings it cannot reconnect to the Media library and I have to terminate TM.

The issue is reproducible, i.e. for the same album it always occurs at the same title. Playing this title only (including the one before and after) works fine, though.

I observed this behaviour even when using TM on my phone as server, control point and renderer (WLAN switched off).

I have an Xperia Neo with latest firmware (2.3.4) installed. Please note, that I tested with power supply plugged in and sleep mode disabled.

Are you aware of this issue?

Best regards

I have the same problem : when using Twonky Mobile on my iPad2 the app needs to be open on the screen (not the background) in order to sequentially play the playlist on my WD TV Live or Philips NP2900 device. If the iPad is locked or I am using another app I need to switch to the Twonky Mobile task to let it (mostly automatically) play the next item on the playlist - after some time.

Cheers,

Martin
